Serious Issues of the day...
Very few thinking people will disagree with the thought our nation (The United States of America) is at a very critical juncture RIGHT NOW! I am not an alarmist, nor do I live in fear!  I do believe that true wisdom is available to anyone and everyone who will humble themselves under the mighty and loving hand of our Creator. His Word tells us that our Creator does not give us a spirit of fear, but one of a sound mind, love and self-control.  Therefore, my purpose here is not to traffic in fear, but rather to awaken believers to a rather sobering reality!

As I see it, we as a nation, are standing at a Y in the very life of our nation. For those who have bought into the idea that Christians should not be  involved in politics, I have this to say. As Christians, we are told by our Lord that we are salt and light in this earth.

On Being Salt and Light
“You are the salt of the earth.  But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again?  It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men. “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.  Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.  In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.  Matthew 5:13-18 (NIV)
Careful study reveals that the metaphor of salt has a dual meaning.  Primarily it refers to the preservative quality of salt as it was used to preserve foods, especially meats.  Therefore, applying to the words of our Lord, we are to have a preservative effect on our community and extended society in which we reside.  By the influence of wisdom and love, we help preserve the way of our Creator which leads to life.  Salt also flavors.  In so doing, as salt we are to bring the "flavor" of Biblical love into our society.  Love one another and love your neighbor as ourselves.

To follow today's thinking, as "We the people," we have it within our power to take the fork to the left... or to the right!

I do believe one of these paths will lead this nation deeper into darkness! We are at a critical point right now! We have already been decending into darkness (as a nation) for several decades now. If we take the path to the left, we may well be plunging into irreversable decline and a decay whose destiny is the ash heap of time. The other path, will require true grit and bold (not cocky) spiritual awakening. But if bravely followed will lead to out of darkness into light and true peace. Phil Landrum
